One weekend during my pregnancy so many people had told me “Oh you just wait” or “Wait until they do this, this, and this.”
I never babysat growing up. I always sat down while holding a newborn. Even in my 20s I waited for the parents to put them in my arms. I used to get nervous when they started to cry and I would instantly hand them back to their parents
As someone who was very timid around babies I remember feeling very scared, anxious, defeated, and honestly second guessing myself as a new mama.
After having Honey, I’m here to tell any nervous first time mamas to throw those negative comments out the window. ✌🏼 It will all come naturally the moment the doctor lays your baby on your chest.
Yes they will cry, you will be so exhausted, you won’t know what day it is, you won’t brush your hair for several days, get out of your pjs for the day, there will be lots of restless nights, and lots of tears.
But you just wait…….. 🤍
Just wait until you hold them for the very first time.
Just wait until they grab your finger for the first time.
Just wait until they smile for the first time.
Just wait until they make eye contact with you for the first time.
Just wait until you and your husband are laughing wondering if you put their diaper on right.
Just wait until it’s 2am feeding time and it’s just you and your baby gazing into each other’s eyes.
Just wait until they give the cutest yawns.
Just wait until they give the most adorable big stretches.
Just wait until you feel their soft skin.
After becoming a mama myself and experiencing those comments, I have vowed to never say those words of, “Oh you just wait” to a new mama. I have vowed to stop the stigma of those words. Instead, I will lift up and encourage her. I will listen to her fears and reassure her. I will tell her about the good, “Oh you just wait” moments. And if you’ve made it this far, I hope you do the same as well. 🤍
